SafeCom Pull Printing
SafeCom Pull printing requires a printer-embedded software (SafeCom Go, HP only) or printer-external hardware (SafeCom Controller plus a SafeCom Front-End, any printer) solution to allow users to authenticate with the system and select jobs for printing, retention or deletion.
SafeCom Go
On most workgroup or departmental HP laserjets or MFPs access and control can be achieved with a Java-based software - SafeCom Go - that runs within the HP Java Virtual Machine. The printer's keyboard and display is used to interface with the SafeCom software to authenticate users, print, retain or delete documents submitted to the SafeCom system.
SafeCom Controller and Front-End
Printers other than the HP models refered to above can be controlled by attaching an external SafeCom Controller with a one-port or three-port built-in network hub. The user interfaces with the controller via an attached front-end. The front-end can be used to authenticate users by means of user codes, magnetic swipe cards or a number of types of proximity cards and to print retain or delete documents that are stored on the SafeCom server.
Cost Control - Print and Copy Tracking
SafeCom Print-and-Copy-Tracking enables IT and facilities managers to identify what users print and copy, where, when and at what cost. Cross-charge departments for the use of the print and copy facilities. Tracking can be applied to Push-Printing or Pull-Printing and is completely transparent to the end-user.
Push-printing vs Pull-printing: Push-printing is a method of printing where the user submits a print job to a print queue, which, after processing, it forwards the job to the printer. With pull-printing on the other hand the user submits the print job to what appears to be a standard print queue. However, once the job is processed the SafeCom pull-print port ponitor forwards the job to the SafeCom server for storage until it is "pulled to" or "requested at" a printer by the user.
Engineering - Administrator API
SafeCom Pay is a print and copy management solution aimed at the further and higher education sector as well as public libraries. The following cost control methods are possible:
Full cost recovery - Users pay for all their printing upfront.
Partial cost recovery - Users are given a number of credits, which, when used up, have to be topped up by the users themselves at a SafeCom Money Loader, using a Cashier Program or SafeCom ePay
Quota printing - Users are given a number credits they can use for printing and copying. An administrator can top up credits using the SafeCom Cashier program.
Engineering - Administrator API
Increase stability, availability and up-time.
